  • Working knowledge of English and fluency in Bangla and English;
  • Extent of knowledge and/or applied work experience with new media, social media, communication for development, online communication tools, methodologies and technologies, software packages for page formatting, image management, videos, and content preparation (HTML, Photoshop, and similar software) is an advantage;
  • Track record of pro-actively driving communications and outreach work;
  • Ability to network and collaborate with a large and varied group of stakeholders; and
  • Proven ability to work in teams, in a multicultural environment and under tight deadlines;

Job Context
The FAO Representation in Bangladesh is inviting applications from qualified candidates to the above vacant position under the project, `GCP/BGD/059/USA: Meeting the Undernutrition Challenges (MUCH), to be filled as soon as possible:
Background: Meeting the Undernutrition Challenge (MUCH) is the follow-up project of the National Food Policy Capacity Strengthening Programme (NFPCSP) and based in the Food Planning and Monitoring Unit (FPMU) of the Ministry of Food (MoFood) in Bangladesh. The MUCH project broadens the scope of NFPCSP`s interventions extending support to other core ministries, civil society organizations (CSOs) and the private sector, seeking to achieve a strengthened enabling environment for eradicating food insecurity and malnutrition, in particular, by improving: (i) cross-sectoral and sectoral policies and investment frameworks and programmes for food security and nutrition (FSN) that are gender sensitive; (ii) human and organizational resource development for FSN; (iii) financial resource allocation for FSN; (iv) inclusiveness of governance and coordination mechanisms for FSN; and (v) comprehensiveness of information generation to support FSN policy formulation, programming and implementation.

Job Description / Responsibility
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representation for Bangladesh and the direct supervision of the Chief Technical Adviser (CTA), in close collaboration with Programme Officer and Governance Specialist as well as in consultation with other members of the Technical Assistance Team, the FPMU, relevant Government agencies, and CSOs, the incumbent will contribute to timely and effective delivery of the MUCH project. In particular, the incumbent will:
Develop and follow-up on the implementation of a communications and outreach strategy of the project;
Contribute to the regular sharing of information on project activities, achievements and lessons learnt with relevant stakeholders in Bangladesh - e.g. government officials, donors, NGOs, academic and research institutions - and beyond;
Design, plan and implement food security and nutrition outreach activities aimed at eradicating food insecurity and malnutrition through project implementation and achieving project's goal and objectives;
Oversee and contribute to the design and finalization of technical policy briefs, brochure, news and other communication materials as required;
Update the project website and database to ensure that relevant food security information and policy messages reach a broad and targeted audience;
Monitor the use of the website and information products - e.g. policy briefs, food security monitoring reports - and advice on optimal use and improvements;
Maintain contacts with key information units in the government and UN systems as well as development partners;
Ensure that the FPMU physical and electronic documentation centre is regularly updated with relevant publications, documents, reports; and
Perform other related duties as required.
