Experience:
  • Minimum three years working experience in NGO and/or agricultural project/programme will be given preference.
  • Motorcycle driving experience with valid motorcycle driving license

 

Requirement:
  • Working experience in the agricultural sector in Bangladesh (affinity with GAP, GHP, IPM/ICM and pesticide reduction programmes will be preferred)
  • Experience in dissemination of technology will be preferred.

Project Background:

The regional program SWITCH-Asia, funded by the European Commission (EC), aims to promote the adoption of Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in Asia and Europe. SNV Netherlands Development Organisation has been implementing this EC funded project titled “Improving consumer awareness and access to certified safe tomato and mango products in Bangladesh”. The project is designed to work with the respective beneficiaries in different stages. The project focuses in making a fruitful engagement with the respective actors, i.e. 5,000 mango & 5,000 tomato farmers and agro-food processing companies in Natore and Rajshahi targeting 12 million plus consumers of Dhaka district, that will bring substantial change in tomato and mango processed food, i.e. juice, soft drinks, pickle, jam, mango bars (candy), jelly, paste (puree), ketchup, sauce etc.

Working Area of the Project:

The project is covering two districts and sixteen sub-districts in the Northern part of Bangladesh (Natore & Rajshahi).

Position Summary:

Support SNV District Coordinator to implement the project activities in the field, assist the farmers as to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), liaison with the processing companies, spray service providers (SSPs), hub leaders, sub-hub leaders, target farmers and other public & private stakeholders and internal control systems (ICS) on safe cultivation of mangoes and tomatoes for the processing industries in Natore and Rajshahi Districts.

Key Responsibilities:

Rigorously work with the SNV District Coordinator, processing companies, spray service providers, hub leaders, sub-hub leaders, targeted farmers and other public & private stakeholders.
Implementation of the GAP at the field with the mango and tomato growers with emphasis on agro-chemical reduction under the supervision of the SNV District Coordinator.
Assist in delivery of training-of-trainers (ToT) programs on GAP, GHP and GMP, seminar/workshop as well as holding group meetings/trainings for Spray Service Providers, hub leaders, sub-hub leaders and farmers.
Demonstration on GAP, regular monitoring and advise the farmers and assist them for record keeping & traceability system for GAP.
Regular field visits, contact with farmers, give technical advice to the farmers and support them in GAP.
Assistance in activities of Spray Service Providers.
Facilitate implementation of the available food safety standards to the supply chain actors.
Facilitate implementation of the Standards Operating Procedures (SOPs) and traceability system at GAP and GHP level.
Facilitate implementation of the food safety certification system for producers groups.
Field data collection and day to day monitoring.
Maintain/update farmer database.
Record keeping of production gain, loss and benefit.
Monthly Work Planning and implementation.
Prepare and submit progress reports as per the project requirement.
Coordinate with Upazila public organizations especially administration, DAE, Social Welfare Department as well to ensure NGO certification for the project.
Any other activities assigned by the Project Coordinator.
