  • Good editorial skills, high proficiency in written/spoken English and ability to translate complex issues into material that is compelling, jargon-free and accessible.

  • Basic understanding of document and data base management.
  • Proficient with all MS applications
  • Confident, able to work calmly under pressure and to deadline whilst remaining respectful to the work of others.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

As we become more focused and externally oriented, there is a need to learn from our programmes, capture the learning and to share it with a variety of different stakeholders.

About the role

The communications intern will provide hands-on communications support to the Bangladesh team to help communicate who we are and what we do, and tell our stories to key internal and external audiences. They will work on a range of projects that help to meet the needs of the team, and the wider organisation. The intern will sit within and be managed by the Bangladesh office, but work closely with Christian Aid’s wider Programme Communications team and be matrix managed and mentored by a UK-based Christian Aid communications advisor.

About you

You need to bring a strong strategic focus to communications and networking on overall country programmes. Partnerships, collaborations and networks will be required as key priorities for the role holder.

Key outcomes

The communications intern will be required to play a key role on several specific, strategic communications projects, as well as supporting the day-to-day needs of the Bangladesh team.

Key responsibilities

Support the review and implementation of Christian Aid Bangladesh’s communication plan for 2017-18
Provide support to produce engaging content for publications and other Christian Aid Bangladesh communications activities and channels
Support with formatting, editing and approving of strategic documents for publication – (programme officers are primarily responsible for content and content gathering)
Support Christian Aid partners to collect, edit and share stories, as the need arises.
Act as a champion for Web to Print (Christian Aid’s online system of publications templates) and to provide step-down training for colleagues
Work on Christian Aid Bangladesh twitter handle and Facebook accounts
Work on Christian Aid Bangladesh intranet page and external online content, providing regular updates on key team events and activities
Lead on gathering agreed communications materials for the TIPS fundraising project
Be the focal point for gathering content for the new country strategy brochure, working with a UK-based editors and designers to produce this important document
Work closely with the Country Communications Officers to share programme information, stories and multimedia content for use in UK fundraising, media and sector-facing comms
Participate fully in Christian Aid communications networks, forming relationships and sharing ideas and learning with peers and colleagues doing similar work around the world
