Stand beside flood-hit people, Khaleda asks BNP followers

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has called upon her party leaders and activists to come forward immediately in aid of flood victims at different parts of the country without waiting for the ‘corrupt government’s pity’.

“Flood-hit people can’t be left at the mercy of a corrupt governmenrt. I ask everyone, especially BNP leaders & activists, to urgently help them,” she said in a twitter message, reports UNB.

Besides, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said their chairperson sent out an emergency message from London asking party leaders and activists to visit the flood-hit areas immediately with relief materials.

He said the BNP chief gave the directive as the government is not taking any effective steps to relieve the sufferings of flood-hit people instead of giving only lip services.

At least 33 people were killed and several lakh remained marooned as a severe flood hit the country due to the onrush of water from the upstream and incessant rain.

Voicing deep concern over the deteriorating flood situation in the northern region, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday urged her party leaders and activists to immediately stand by the victims with relief materials.

In a statement, she said, "The country's flood situation has taken a serious turn. People's lives and livelihoods have got devastated as floodwater damaged homesteads, communication system and crops on vast areas on the banks of Teesta and some other rivers in the northern region. Flood-affected people have become hapless losing their house, crops and valuables."

"I call upon BNP leaders and activists at levels, and well-off people to stand beside the flood victims immediately," Khaleda added.

The BNP chief, now in London, alleged that the government has failed to take any effective step to tackle the flood situation. "There's no visible emergency relief activity in the flood-hit areas. Any effective step is yet to be seen to shift the victims to higher and safer lands."

She alleged that though the government is only giving 'lip services', no genuine services and efforts from it are still visible to deal with the fatal flood.

The BNP chairperson said the government is least bothered about public sufferings as it has been in power ignoring people.

She alleged that the government did not give attention to providing the victims with food and shelter after the recent flood in haor areas and hillsides in different areas that took many lives.unb.

Awami League is mocking with the flood-affected victims, political opposition BNP alleged today.

Awami League leaders are running to Bangabhaban instead of standing by flood victims, the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said in a press briefing at Nayapaltan.

“Government says, there is no shortage of food. But the food storages are empty. Most of the districts are inundated and they (AL) are ravaging with Supreme Court verdict,” he said.

“It is as if the Awami League leaders are mocking with the lakhs of flood victims,” Rizvi said. “They are trying to divert the people’s attention from the disaster.”

The BNP leader also asked all its activists, supporters and followers to come forward and stand beside the flood victims.
